Votorantim Siderurgia (Steel) has the premise of following a sustainable-development model, looking up to the people and the environment. Such commitment is in the core of its business strategy and drives the company to always search for pioneering at adopting new sustainability-concept-aligned technologies.

This can be confirmed by the production processes adopted by its units today. Since 1995, ferrous scrap has been used in steel production in addition to systems which have helped to preserve natural resources, such as an increasing utilization of charcoal.

VS has a plant in the city of Barra Mansa, Rio de Janeiro, and has acquired the controlling stake of the second largest integrated plant in Colombia, Acerías Paz del Río, and of the second largest long steel producer in Argentina, AcerBrag. In 2007, it was announced the construction of one more steel plant in Brazil to be inaugurated in 2009 in the city of Resende (RJ).
