The Barra Mansa Unit, in Rio de Janeiro, is Votorantim Siderurgia’s (Steel) oldest operation and one of the three largest long steel producers in the country.
The plant, which activities started in 1937, has a production capacity of 750,000 tons per year comprising armored-concrete rebars, wires, angles, profiles, mesh, latticework, and carbon-steel wire rod destined to cold lamination and drawing. Since 1995 it has adopted a sustainable-development model, which uses ferrous scrap as main raw material, besides the pig iron purchased in the internal market. Its products are destined to both civil and mechanical construction sectors.
The Barra Mansa plant is ISO-9001-Quality-Management-certified, version 2000, and ISO-14001-certified. Its product range has the Argentinean conformity stamp IRAM/IAS, while the Votoraço steel beams are pioneers at obtaining the ABNT/INMetro Conformity Brand, fully meeting the ABNT/NBR 7480 norm.
