The Barra Mansa Symphonic Band has won other five groups and has conquered the bi-championship at the Senior category of XVI Championship of Bands and Fanfares, executed on November 09, at Itaguaí Municipal Theater (RJ). The competition had the participation of fourteen bands of different Brazilian states.

Conducted by maestro José Flávio Pereira, the musicians presented the play “Bebe”, from Hermeto Pascoal and “The Hounds of Spring”, from Alfred Reed. At the end, they were acclaimed by the audience of around two hundred people. The performance was evaluated under the aspects of technique, interpretation, percussion, and presentation, by a jury composed of doctors in music all over Brazil.

Composed by advanced students in blow instrument and monitors, the band is one of the main groups of the project Música nas Escolas [Music at Schools], developed through a partnership between Barra Mansa City Hall and Votorantim Siderurgy, with the support of Votorantim Institute. The Project includes around five thousand children and teenagers in 52 schools from the public education.

“This conquer is the proof of the good work executed by the project, and if we keep on this way, we will conquer even more victories. We are very happy,” says Vantoil de Souza, project coordinator.
