Votorantim Siderurgia will inaugurate this year, new scrap yards on Rio de Janeiro, Paraná e Minas Gerais aiming to ensure the supply of scrap to Barra Mansa Unit with the expected quality and quantity. Since 2003, VS is looking for long term partnerships with suppliers throughout Brazil. Nowadays, the company has seven yards to scrap storage on São Paulo and Goiás States.
“This strategy ensure us more autonomy on the market to supply the productive process and still keep our business on, with competitive costs. The prevision to the 2nd semester is to increase our demand for this material, when Resende Unit will start operations” informs Enrique Soares, Metallic´s corporate general manager.
According to Ângelo Miguel, Metallic´s manager, the bought scrap mix should change following the market dynamics and the needs of the steelworks companies. “ Nowadays, approximately 70% of our products are made of recycled materials , as cans, stoves and refrigerators discarded after lifecycle, and 30% are from industrial sources as automobiles production. This percentage, may fluctuate as our volume of production and sales”, explains.
