Barra Mansa and Resende are two of the 88 cities comprising the project Votorantim Partnership for the Education, launched by Votorantim Institute. Cities where the two branches of Votorantim Siderurgia are located will be benefited by initiatives to improve public education quality. The purpose of the project Votorantim Partnership for Education is to set a positive schedule to discuss and qualify public education in the cities of 18 Brazilian States, based on the main indicators, and management and evaluation tools for education in Brazil.
Some employees of the Resende and Barra Mansa units will be trained as encouragers, principals from city public schools will take part in qualification workshops and students will receive lectures on the importance of education for their personal and professional growth. In addition, meetings with local agents are planned to be held, as well as with public power, contests for youngsters and speakers, and communication campaigns, all according to the characteristics and demand of each city.
Some of the purposes of Votorantim Partnership for Education are to disseminate and support for the Educational tools and goals established by the Ministry of Education (MEC) and by civil society. The initiatives involve the Plan of Articulated Actions (PAR), set forth in the Plan of Educational Development, and the goals of the Movement Everyone for Education.
By encouraging social control actions, the initiative intends to qualify the demand for education, strengthen favorable initiatives for the quality in Brazilian public schools and capture communities where Votorantim Group operates, in all regions of Brazil. The project comprises three important actions: uploading the Education Blog (Blog Educação), and Award for the Education Partner Speaker (Prêmio Comunicador Parceiro da Educação) and the contest Old School Times (Concurso Tempos de Escola):
Blog Education: is one of the projects’ backbones and will be the main tool to disseminate content and discuss subjects regarding education. At the website www.blogeducacao.org.br, visitors will find researches, articles, matters about education and examples of successful practices performed in other cities comprising the project Votorantim Partnership for Education.
Award for the Education Partner Speaker: has the purpose of recognizing the work of communication professionals who perform on the radio, TV, newspapers, magazines and online communication means, and are standing out for their job of covering the Education theme, in cities comprising the project. The regulation is available at “Blog Educação” and registration can be filed up to September 4th, 2009.
Contest Old School Times: In partner shop with MEC and Futura Channel, the contest Old School Times (Tempos de Escola) will acknowledge the best text written by students of Elementary and High schools in the cities comprising the project Votorantim Partnership for Education.
