Votorantim Siderurgia welcomed customers, suppliers, authorities and reporters on the 7th of October last so as to introduce its new plant in Resende. The guests were able to view the installations of the new mill, expansion plans for the coming years, investments and the products.

About 200 people assembled at the Plant for the event. The opening ceremony was conducted by the managing director, Albano Vieira, who called attention to the main challenges in building the company, the outstanding characteristics of the Plant and the entire Votoraço line of products. “We contracted the best technologies and we have a perfect plant, environmentally speaking. Besides that, we have already planted around 180 thousand seedlings of native species from the region”, Albano pointed out.

VS invested 1 billion reais (US$ 550 million) in the new steel mill. The Plant will be operating with 70% of its installed capacity by 2010. “It was a magnificent feat, not only for the short time in which we managed to build it, but also for having stuck to the plans of the original budget’, he added.

Participating in this event were the entire managerial team from the Resende and Barra Mansa Plants, the coordinators from the Sales area, Corporate managers, the CEO of VID, Raul Calfat, and the president of the Board of Administration, Carlos Emirio de Moraes.
