VS invests US$21 million at the Paz del Río Steel Mill

Votorantim Siderurgia, on the 12th of November, announced an investment of US$ 21 million at the Colombian steel mill Acerías Paz del Rio to be used to build and assemble a gas scrubber. This equipment will substantially reduce emissions from the converters at the plant, located in Belencito.

“We have just signed a multi-million dollar contract to acquire a state-of-the-art scrubber which will significantly reduce emissions of particulate matter generated by the steel mill. This purchase will contribute to sustainable development in the region and improve the quality of life in neighboring communities and also that of our employees. We are firmly convinced that industrial development should go hand-in-hand with environmental conservation, since no business is sustainable when there is a lack of respect for the surrounding environment”, states Gilson Moraes, executive vice-president of APDR.

The reduction in the mill’s emissions of particulate matter is part of the steel maker’s plans and goals to become the national leader in steel. “To reach our goals, we must ensure clean conditions in production which take care of the quality of the air that our neighbors breathe”, concludes Gilson Moraes.
